CALGARY, Alberta (AP) -- The expansion Minnesota Wild cleared another hurdle.
Antti Laaksonen scored 3:11 into overtime and Wes Walz had two goals as the Wild beat the Calgary Flames 3-2 Sunday night for Minnesota's first road win.
On the winning goal, Flames goaltender Fred Brathwaite made the first stop on a shot by Jim Dowd, but Laaksonen picked up the rebound in the slot and fired it just inside the post.
The Wild entered the game with two losses and a tie in three previous road games.
"We've been looking forward to this night for a long time," Walz said. "It's an exciting night for the whole franchise and the boys are pretty pumped up."
Conversely, Calgary, winless in its last eight games (0-6-2) and a winner of just one of its last nine home games (1-6-2), was left to ponder its slump.
"Everybody's trying, everybody's working their hardest, but the puck just isn't bouncing for us right now," Flames winger Valeri Bure said. "Maybe when you don't have the confidence, this is what happens. Maybe we're squeezing the sticks too hard."
Minnesota led most of the game before Jeff Cowan tied it for Calgary with 6:45 remaining in the third period. He deflected a Toni Lydman shot past goalie Manny Fernandez.
Cowen and Marc Savard scored for the Flames, who continue to struggle against expansion teams. Calgary has lost to Minnesota twice and Columbus once.
