The Brainerd Rural Fire Association last week took delivery of its new 1,100 gallon tanker-pumper unit, which cost $43,000. The new unit has a 300-gallon-per-minute pump. The association provides fire protection service to 10 townships, Baxter and East Gull Lake.

Brainerd will have a subsidized city bus service beginning in September of 1971 as the result of a 2,804 to 1,542 vote in favor of the issue here.

The Chevrolet-Cadillac franchise owned by John Konshak here since 1934 was sold to Joseph A. Kolar and David H. Galvin, both of Duluth, effective Nov. 1.

Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Levis and daughters, Margy and Sally, left last evening for Hollywood, Fla., where they will spend the winter months.

The Western Union girl was stumped this morning when she got a telegram addressed to the "City of Brainerd." The Dispatch advised her to deliver the same either to the city clerk or Mayor Little.
100 years ago (1900)
The football team recently organized in the Brainerd High School went to Aitkin on Saturday noon last, accompanied by a score of local enthusiasts to play the high school team of that place. They probably were not so cheerful when they returned at midnight, as they were nicely beaten by the Aitkin team 17 to 5.
