Representatives from 11 Brainerd area churches braved the threat of rain and brisk weather to participate in the 20th annual CROP Walk on Oct. 4. About 75 die-hard walkers showed up starting and ending at Lord of Life Lutheran Church. The walkers traversed a three-mile route.
The walkers gave and solicited gifts from sponsors for a total of $4,769 for alleviating hunger. The Salvation Army Food Shelf and the Sharing Bread Soup Kitchen will each receive nearly $600 as the local dimension of alleviating hunger.
We thank all who helped carry out this ministry. Thanksgiving is a good time to be reminded that we are blessed to be a blessing that can happen here and around the world. We walk because people in third world countries walk everywhere for food, fuel and water. We have an option. Theirs is a necessity.
Do you dare to speak out?
Recently while reading, I came across a poem which brought back memories of a wonderful Sunday school teacher who taught it to our class.
Dare to be Daniel.
Dare to stand alone.
Dare to have a purpose firm.
Dare to make it known.
It brought to mind Glenn Beck and Fox News who some view to be liars, etc. How on earth could this have any connection to him, who some refer to as crazy? All of which Glenn has laughingly repeated about himself but it hasn't stopped him from speaking out. We as humans have a problem of not always listening too well but if you are really curious, all Glenn is asking is that our government and White House tell us the truth instead of closed doors, cover-ups and the blame game. Unfortunately, too many members of Congress along with the White House have become unbelievingly arrogant and look down on us taxpayers as idiots, ignorant and stupid cows from which they want to milk every last dime.
In Nancy Pelosi's view, taxpayers who dare to protest are akin to those dreaded brown shirts so prevalent in Germany during WWII. In case you don't know what she is referring to, call your nearest library and ask because according to recent reports some public school history text books allow more space to the life of Marilyn Monroe than that of our first president George Washington, let alone the real facts of our country's history. We are on a very dangerous slippery slope. If we allow our government to dispense with God, so will be lost all freedoms. Do you dare to stand up and speak out or will the blood so many millions have shed for our freedoms have been in vain?
Thanks for clarifying news story
I would like to thank the Brainerd Dispatch for the article and picture clarifying that the Paulson Travel Service is not out of business. I (and the many people who use Paulson's Travel Service) appreciate your goodwill in this matter.
In an Open Forum letter written by Stephen Heinecke in Wednesday's newspaper the Brainerd Dispatch incorrectly referred to An America when the phrase should have read Air America.
The Dispatch regrets the error.
