20 years ago (1989)

Brainerd Warrior runner Turena Johnson proved she's getting better with age as she finished fifth in the Class AA cross country meet. After finishing tenth last year the freshman toured the 3,200 course in 12 minutes, 18.8 seconds.

30 years ago (1979)

James E. Koerper, acting head of St. Joseph's Hospital since July, was named hospital administrator by the Benedictine Sisters and the hospital board. He had been acting administrator since Jerry Scott left to take a hospital position in Rapid City, S.D.

40 years ago (1969)

60 years ago (1949)

A Nokay Lake man was fined $150 and his fine suspended when he was arraigned in district court before Judge Fullerton. He was charged with dredging out portions of the lake bottom to improve the shoreline, in violation of a 1947 law.

80 years ago (1929)

Deadlocking in three roll call votes in open session, the Brainerd City Council took the Peterson oil station license request into secret session and there voted to grant a permit to build. Back in open session a unanimous vote was recorded in favor of the permit.

100 years ago (1909)

The steamer Gertrude, which was shipped from Duluth to Aitkin winter before last, then hauled cross country to Lake Mille Lacs, has become the property of the moving company due to non-payment of charges. They have posted the boat for sale.
