Brainerd and Baxter merchants have curbed their competitive urges and joined forces to present the area's first winter parade, Nov. 29. It's a business promotion, but it's also meant to create a Brainerd-Baxter connection.

A snowy owl, a diurnal arctic owl, was spotted along a road in the Sylvan Lake area recently. The bird attains a height of about 20 inches and a wingspan of 55 inches.

40 years ago (1965)

A Viet Nam Loyalty Day is in the planning stages in Brainerd, spearheaded by Mayor Clyde Gorham. The date for the special day is Nov. 14.

The Staples High School team duplicated its eat of last year by downing the locals 44-0 in a slippery game. Brainerd however, went down fighting to the end.

100 years ago (1905)

Today is the opening of the deer season, but the weather is most unfavorable for hunting. Unless there is a change there will be very little of this game brought down.
