Divides show in the auditor/treasurer race breakdown, in a year with incumbents doing well in Crow Wing County.
In the race that pitted two incumbents against each other, Laureen Borden, treasurer, defeated Auditor Deborah Erickson by 1,515 votes.
Borden had 52.94 percent of the vote compared to Erickson's 46.83 percent. There were 56 write-ins.
Borden showed strength in numbers from the outlying communities and townships, gaining 42 of 62 precincts.
Erickson pulled in the other 20 precincts, gaining the Blue Precinct in Unorganized Territory, Baxter's precincts 1W, 2E and 2W and Brainerd's Ward 1, Ward 2 and Ward 4 Precinct 1.
Borden took the other two precincts in Unorganized Territory, Baxter's 1E, Brainerd's Ward 3 and Ward 4 Precinct 2.
There were interesting divisions with Borden taking the city of Jenkins while Erickson won Jenkins Township. The greatest divides came in Fort Ripley with about 70 percent of the vote going to Erickson and in Dean Lake with about 73 percent of the vote going to Borden. But in many cases the counts were much closer. Thirteen precincts were decided by just a few percentage points.
