WALKER - The Cass Lake man who is accused of stabbing to death a neighbor Sept. 24 pleaded not guilty Oct. 24 in Cass County District Court to two counts of felony second-degree murder and one of felony animal fights.
Michael Francis Anthony Wind, 54, entered his pleas before Judge John P. Smith. A Nov. 28 pretrial hearing was set.
According to the complaint filed against Wind, Warren Tibbetts asked Wind to stop trying to insight his dogs to fight with Tibbetts' dog. Wind then allegedly went home and got a knife.
Tibbetts attempted to use a mop handle to fend off thrusts Wind made with the knife, according to the complaint, but Wind pushed the mop handle away and plunged the knife into Tibbetts' chest, then stabbed Tibbetts' dog.
Tibbetts walked into his house where he died. The dog survived.
Wind reportedly left the scene, heading toward a trail where law enforcement officers caught him and arrested him. He was treated at Park Rapids hospital for injuries to his hands before being booked at Cass County Law Enforcement Center.
