Two Cardinals heading to state

BAGLEY - Kaytlin Roth and Emma Pogreba of Staples-Motley qualified for state as they claimed fourth- and sixth-place finishes in the Section 8-1A meet Friday.

Roth ran a time of 16:45.77 and Pogreba a 16:51.53. Katie Stone finished 29th and Kyann Nyhus finished 36.

They helped the Cardinals' girls' team to fourth place with 113 points.

Pequot Lakes finished seventh with 172 points. The Patriots were led by Jackie Brine-Doyle, who placed 27th at 18:14.53.

Pillager was 12th and Pine River-Backus 14th.

Wadena-Deer Creek's Hanna Toedter placed 20th with a 17:56.33.

The top two teams and top 10 individuals advance to state.
