The Sioux Falls Stampede announced Tuesday that defenseman Chris Peluso has verbally committed to attend Bemidji State University next season.
The Wadena native, and former Brainerd High School defenseman, is in his second season with the Stampede. He notched his first goal of the season Friday in a 5-2 win over Green Bay.
A seventh-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Peluso tallied eight points in 53 games last year with the Herd.
BSU is a member of the College Hockey America Conference, which includes Air Force, Alabama-Huntsville, Niagara, Robert Morris and Wayne State.
The Beavers are off to a 5-1-0 start after sweeping Minnesota-Duluth and Minnesota State-Mankato. BSU is ranked 18th in the country in the latest USCHO.com/CSTV poll.
Last season, the Beavers claimed the CHA regular-season and postseason championships and earned their first NCAA tournament bid. The Beavers, coached by former BHS assistant Tom Serratore, 23-3-1.
Section 7 volleyball final moved to Pequot Lakes
The Section 7, Class 2A volleyball championship match, originally scheduled for Hermantown, has been switched to Pequot Lakes High School.
The Pine River-Backus Tigers (22-7) will play the Crosby-Ironton Rangers (21-6) 7 p.m. Thursday.
