SOMERSET, Wis. -- Evelyn M. McKay-Nelson, 85, Somerset, Wis., formerly of Glen, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, at her home.
She was born April 23, 1916, in Wheatland, N.D., to David and Florence "Flo" (McPatrick) McKay. She was employed at Honeywell Co. and worked on the company's first space capsule project. She retired from Honeywell in 1963. In 1964, she moved to Glen and worked for Malmo Bay Lodge on Mille Lacs Lake. At age 63 she bought the Pine Inn of Glen and operated it for nine years. She was a member of the Aitkin American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, Edward Ackerson, Wichita Falls, Texas; two daughters, Ada Gustin, Stillwater, and Barbara Hite, Somerset, Wis.; a sister, June Rannow, Minneapolis; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Andrew Nelson; three brothers, Willis, Wesley and Lawrence McKay; and a sister, Marjorie Burnham, died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Aitkin with the Rev. Winfield Johnson, Brother Jim Crockett and the Rev. Larry Forsberg officiating. Burial will be in the Malmo Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, with prayer service beginning at 7 p.m., at Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin and one hour before services Monday.
