BHS second in conference meet

SARTELL - Sarah Dens, Laura Goll and Katy Etterman earned all-conference honors as the Brainerd Warriors finished second in the Central Lakes Conference meet Saturday.

Dens placed third in the 200 freestyle, Goll was third in the 500 free and Etterman was third in diving.

"All-conference is not easy to get," Warriors coach Dan Anderson said. "I'm proud of these three."

Honorable mention went to Goll for a sixth-place finish in the 200 free; Siri Smith with a fifth place in the 100 backstroke and sixth in the 200 IM; and Dens with a fifth in the 100 free.

All-conference honors go to the top two relays and top three individuals. Honorable mention goes to third-place relays and to fourth through sixth place in individual events.

Brainerd had 309 points to finish behind only Sartell, which won with 428. Little Falls was sixth.

"We swam very well and are very pleased to finish second in the conference," Anderson said. "Sartell is in a class by themselves. We beat Fergus Falls twice this year, which is very hard to do. The CLC is a tough conference and second place isn't too bad."

Little Falls' Whitney Weisz was runner-up in the 50 and 100 frees with school-record times of 24.89 and 53.51. She finished behind Fergus Falls' Heidi Busack in both races.

"It's likely to be a similar situation in three weeks at the state meet with those two going at each other," Flyers coach Tim Corbett said.

The Flyers' 200 free relay of Megan Voss, Macy Olson, Brittany Then and Weisz finished second.

"In my four years as coach this is the first time we've had any all-conference performers," Corbett said.
