Brainerd's Tyner places third at MWC Championships
OREM, Utah - Justin Tyner of Brainerd clocked a career-best time of 23:45 to place third in the Mountain West Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
Finishing just 10 seconds off of the pace, Tyner's first-team all-conference performance was the Falcons' best individual finish since 2005. The junior was one of two Air Force runners to earn all-conference honors.
Tyner and teammate Zach Nordahl were the only two in the top 17 that did not represent conference champion New Mexico or runner-up BYU.
Mangan leads Saints
ST. BONIFACIUS - Brainerd High School graduate Nick Mangan on Saturday helped the St. Scholastica men's cross country team to its first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference cross country championship since 2006.
Mangan finished fourth overall with a time of 27:58 seconds. He also earned all-conference honors for finishing in the top 12. The Saints scored 68 points to win the title.
St. Scholastica will compete in the NCAA Division III Central Regional, hosted by Grinnell College, Iowa, on Nov. 14.
Brenny earns honors at meet
BRONX, N.Y. - University of North Dakota senior Brittany Brenny of Staples placed second Saturday at the Great West Conference Women's Cross Country Championships.
Brenny earned all-conference first-team honors for the second straight year. She placed fourth at the meet last year and ran Saturday's course in 22:30.99.
The Sioux finished third in the eight-team meet with 89 points.
St. Scholastica, Olejnicak win
DULUTH - The St. Scholastica women's soccer team defeated Northland College 2-1 in its regular-season finale Friday as Saints goalie Erin Olejnicak of Brainerd made six saves.
The Saints finish the regular season 15-3-2 overall and 13-0-1 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. They are 9-0 at home this season and have won 18 straight home games.
