20 years ago (1989)

Minnesota's ponderous process of issuing permits for MacMillan Bloedel's proposed Deerwood wood processing plant edged closer to decision time. More than 300 people attended a public information session at C-I High School to ask questions.

30 years ago (1979)

Fire towers. Those lonely outposts, manned by spotters on the alert for a puff of smoke, are a familiar landmark in the Brainerd area. They may soon be a thing of the past, however, replaced by the drone of an airplane engine.

40 years ago (1969)

A total of 535 students enrolled in Brainerd State Junior College for the fall term, according to President J.E. Chalberg. This represents more than an eight per cent increase over last fall's 494 students.

60 years ago (1949)

80 years ago (1929)

County Attorney Arthur Sullivan was named president of the Brainerd Armory Committee to conduct Brainerd's part in securing a state armory and tank unit here in 1931. Adjutant Gen. Walsh and Sen. C. Rosenmeier will address a mass meeting.

100 years ago (1909)

J. H. Koop went down the line this afternoon. He would not have gone had he not been able to demonstrate his ability as a sprinter as he had a lively run to catch the train.
