Yanique Redwood-Jones had worked as a professional organizer near Detroit for a year when she decided to spread the gospel of life management beyond her clientele.
So she created Balance, which she calls "the magazine about getting and staying organized." The 88-page fall debut issue features articles on survival strategies of work-at-home moms, updating a wardrobe, rebuilding a closet and planning for the holidays (Hint: keep everything, from recipes to houseguests' cell phone numbers, in one seasonal notebook.)
Redwood-Jones, 27, is editor in chief; husband Mark Jones, 31, whom she terms a "dot-com casualty," is publisher. They financed the first 6,000-issue press run and expect to go bi-monthly in January. In addition to $19.97 yearly subscriptions, she hopes to market Balance in stores that sell organizing systems and through professional organizers.
"We are targeting busy women who are balancing several things at one time: kids, home, job, planning family trips," she said.
