Former state trooper killed in crash near Longville

LONGVILLE (AP) - A former Minnesota state trooper has been killed in a one-vehicle crash near Longville. He was not wearing a seat belt.

State Patrol Lt. Erik Roeske said that Timothy J. Murphy's vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree near Longville on Friday.

Murphy, of Longville, spent 26 years with the patrol, including time as an accident reconstructionist, before retiring in 2008.

Murphy's pickup truck was headed south on Highway 84 when he lost control of the vehicle on a curve and struck the tree.

Roeske says the accident shows that no one is immune to the dangers of driving without a seat belt.
