Brainerd students Megan Tschida and Toni Terwilliger were promoted to first-degree black belt on Saturday as Central Minnesota conducted its annual black belt exam.

Tschida is 13 and Terwilliger 14. Eight people tested and four were promoted. All eight have been training for more than five years.

Boosters to have state sendoff for runners

The Brainerd Sports Boosters Club will have a state sendoff for Warrior boys' and girls' state cross country teams at Thursday's meeting at the Moose Lodge.

Cross country coach Dave Herath will be the featured speaker along with Warriors football coach Ron Stolski, who will preview Saturday's Section 8-5A championship game at St. Cloud State.

Jenna Dean, the Warrior Athlete of the Week, will be honored.

Hole in one

Mike Alvarez, Baxter, shot a hole in one Tuesday at Eagles Landing in Fort Ripley. He aced the 114-yard 17th hole with an 11-wood.
