The following information has been in the newspaper many times. Why don't some people get it? The smoke-free law is about the health of the employees. Secondhand smoke has been killing them for years. It is not about the customer or the owner. It is about the worker who is breathing the cancer-laden smoke for eight hours every day. They deserve to keep their jobs and work in a safe environment. Pay attention. Say it three times: It is about the worker.
Non-smokers give it a rest
You finally got your way so people that smoke can be shoved to the side. But I still keep reading letters complaining about the butts on the street. Listen up. If you're causing a large majority to quit smoking, eating out (which is taxed) or drinking out (which is taxed), guess who will start paying the $30 billion dollars smokers paid for their cigarettes in 2006? I can hardly wait for the non-smoker to complain to me when they're paying sales tax on clothing and food that they haven't been paying. The government will get the tax from someone.
Hats off to the arb
I want to say a huge thank you to the people involved in the Haunted Trail at the Northland Arboretum. We went on Sunday night with a small group of people of all ages. We had an amazing time. From the minute we walked in to pay the very small fee ($3) all the way through the "haunted trail" to the end where we enjoyed some hot apple cider around the campfire. From start to finish, this was one of the most enjoyable times we've had. Our hats are off to you. Can't wait to go back next year.
Now that we have the smokers where we want them, at home or outside, can we do something about the perfume ladies? A little goes a long way. No need to bathe in it.
