Cardinals caravan heads back to state

BAGLEY - Gunner Johnson and Jordan Bendson each had top-10 finishes as the Staples-Motley Cardinals boys finished second during Friday's Section 8-1A meet to advance to the Class 1A state meet.

Kaytlin Roth and Emma Pogreba also advanced to state as they claimed fourth- and sixth-place finishes helping the Cardinals girls' team to fourth.

The Cardinals boys' will join the top-ranked Perham Yellowjackets, which won with 20 points. Pequot Lakes finished third and were led by Silas Lydeen's 13th-place 18:42. Wadena-Deer Creek was ninth, Pine River-Backus 12th and Pillager 16th.

The top-ranked Perham girls' team also won followed by eighth-ranked Park Rapids. The Cardinals scored 113 points.
