20 years ago (1988)

Virginia Haines of rural Brainerd is a featured artist at the Brainerd Public Library through Nov. 19. She is displaying her wildlife paintings done in watercolor. Included in the exhibits "Leaving the Nest" a water color which received an award in the DNR's first loon contest.

30 years ago (1978)

Three-year old Troy Winegarner won first place in the YMCA Halloween Costume Contest last night. Troy showed up for the party wearing a big nosed mask and accompanied by a huge stuffed turtle.

40 years ago (1968)

Ardell Cook of Nisswa, posting games of 225, 200 and 179 for a 604 total, bowled her second 600 series in the Tri-Hi League at LaGuyal Lanes Thursday.

60 years ago (1948)

Approximately 250 Legionnaires attended the first dinner meeting of Carl Sidney Hanson Post held at the Legion Club. The dinner of baked ham was prepared by M.A. (Curley) Kurz.

80 years ago (1928)

Local news:

Mrs. D.A. Nutting and son, Jack, will spend the weekend in Brainerd as the guest of Marvin Nutting.

100 years ago (1908)

The East Brainerd bridge is in dangerous condition and needs immediate repairing. The walk on the bridge is full of holes. The railings on both sides are in bad shape. On the north side at least 70 feet of the lower part of the railing is missing.
