ST. PAUL - Elizabeth "Libby" Ann Anderson, 90, formerly of Brainerd, died peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, in St. Paul, where she had been living for the last eight years.
She was born Oct. 19, 1918, in Crosby, Minn., to Joseph and Anita Haster. She graduated from Crosby High School, Crosby Junior College and the Minnesota School of Business.
Elizabeth married Dean M. Anderson of Ironton on her birthday in 1941. They moved to Brainerd in 1952 where they lived together until 2000. She was a devoted wife and mother, raising four children.
Elizabeth was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Brainerd where she served as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, adult fellowship leader and mission supporter. She was a gracious hostess and opened her home to many people including visiting missionaries, Bible study groups and ladies circle meetings. Dean and Elizabeth particularly enjoyed hosting friends for a grilled hamburger picnic on their pontoon boat. She actively pursued her various interests such as quilting, oil painting and gardening. She was a volunteer for the Paul Bunyan Arboretum. Elizabeth and Dean loved to travel and took several trips to many parts of the world.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Dean; her youngest son, Steve; one sister, Marguerite Hoversten; and one grandson, Ben Buckhout.
She is survived by her sister, Carol Sanders; her sons, Dale (Karen), Mark (Judy); and her daughter, Carol Buckhout (Don); and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Brainerd with Darrel Robertson officiating. Friends may call on Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, from 4-7 p.m. at the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Brainerd. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd.
