Recent Open Forum articles have implied that I have accepted campaign contributions from special interest group(s). That is not true, I have not. To set the records straight, the contributions I accepted have been from individuals who also expressed their thanks and confidence in my representation as well as their best wishes for my re-election.
The people who have helped me distribute campaign literature have volunteered to do so. They have the right to support me as their candidate of choice. Many have expressed their trust in me to continue to listen to citizens' views, to study the issues which come before the council, and to try to make the best decision for all of us. Every citizen of Brainerd has the right to that same expectation of me, and I intend to fulfill their expectation with fair representation as best I am able, without undue influence from any quarter.
Candidate for alderman at large
In response to the writer of "BMX and Scheeler" that appeared in Sunday's Vox Pop, I feel the comments were made with haste and no real knowledge of Gary's relationship with the track and the people who operate it.
When the issue of moving the track from Memorial Park arose, Gary, then owner of a utility contracting company offered up to $10,000 in free equipment use to aid in the relocation of the facility. Gary's new businesses, which happen to be near the new track, have donated tools and equipment numerous times over the past few years to help build and maintain the family fun spot. Brainerd BMX has always had an open, free of charge account with Gary's companies.
I am positive both parties would like to keep it that way and feel that negative personal attacks can only hinder the relationships that have been built. Thank you.

The Coalition for Responsible Development is a grassroots organization devoted to the goals of supporting locally owned business and protecting the environment. I have made no secret of the fact that these are some of my goals too.
As a recent letter suggested, I did accept a campaign contribution from the coalition. I have also accepted seven other contributions from individuals The implication that my future opinions and city council votes will have been purchased by any of these supporters infuriates me. I am a thinking person, and I arrived at my opinions independently, before the coalition even existed.
If I am elected, I will represent Ward 4 with integrity and openness. I will listen to the citizens' concerns and educate myself fully on every issue.

As a sportsman and lover of guns, I will be voting for Mr. Stan Nagorski, Mr. Mike Hatch and Mr. Roger Moe. I call for all true sportsmen to support these responsible leaders and to actively solicit votes for them.
Mr. Pawlenty is right in wanting to sign the Woman's Right to Know legislation because he's concerned for women. I say that because I know that there is a powerful abortion industry, that in Minnesota alone made $12,000,000. Vote for a caring choice.

Mayor Wallin states that the most important issue for Brainerd is comprehensive planning and encouraging new businesses. But a few years ago the mayor voted for $1.5 million for a company to build buses, but one was never built. The city lost money. What leadership?
Scheeler bashing seems to be a hobby for some people, especially about the BMX track. The BMX track would not even be talking to the Brainerd city council if Mr. Scheeler did not push for the city to purchase the excess state land at the junction of Highway 18 and Highway 25. If a developer could have purchased the land, I think the BMX would have been told to pack it up and leave. With Mr. Scheeler's push to have the city develop the land, the BMX people may discuss this issue with the Brainerd city council.
The comment the writer made about Mr. Scheeler being concerned about the highway, MnDOT is taking 100 feet more land beyond the road right of way. This puts the roadway in the middle of the BMX parking lot! Also if anyone would have bothered to talk to Mr. Scheeler, he has donated his rental equipment to the BMX track so they may maintain and improve the track for several years.
Mr. Scheeler is concerned about the kids, BMX and the city of Brainerd.

We need to elect Mary Koep to the city council. She has been a passionate and dedicated citizen on both the county commissioner and council offices.
We need her back as alderman-at-large to get things done and increase growth in Brainerd.
Talk on phone
Personally, I don't care who gets elected sheriff, but I do wish one could talk to him on the phone at the County Law Enforcement Center.
Jerrold C. Turnquist
He voted for it
Very few people know that a law was passed allowing the state to copy everyone's medical records!
When I contacted Sen. Don Samuelson about this, he was amazed that anyone would object! He voted for it.
When they have been in a government office too long, they think anything is all right.
Dick Ross has instituted new programs and enhanced the existing ones. He has moved forward to make our county one of the best, up-to-date law enforcement agencies in our state. Let's continue to move forward with Sheriff Ross.
Robert and Shirley Hall
We believe that experience and education are essential to be the chief law enforcement officer of Crow Wing County. Therefore, there is no other choice for sheriff except Dick Ross. He has both the experience and education to do the best job for all of us. He has our vote.

While coming home from work late one winter night, I noticed mailboxes down on my road. I called my sleeping neighbor, deputy Eric Klang, who immediately jumped in his squad car, found and arrested the felons. Vote for a hardworking, neighborhood watch sheriff, Eric Klang.
Eric Klang has impressed me as an officer of the law. Any reported problem we have incurred has been handled with impeccable promptness, courtesy and thoroughness. He follows up consistently. We need a great working relationship with the law and Eric Klang sets the tone.
