MAHNOMEN - Fifth-seeded Pillager gave the top-seeded Mahnomen Indians fits before the Huskies fell 7-6 in the Section 6-1A football semifinals Saturday.
Both teams scored in the second quarter.
Ty Beckius, a 5-foot-7, 305-pound lineman, scored Mahnomen's only touchdown on a 1-yard plunge. Anthony Lavoy kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead.
Pillager answered with a 60-yard TD pass from Justin Ringler to Shawn Baron but its extra-point kick veered off to the left.
Early in the second quarter Ringler hit Baron for a 27-yard gain to the Mahnomen 4 but on the next play the Huskies fumbled and the Indians recovered.
Neither team posed a serious scoring threat in the second half. Pillager did have the ball at midfield with about five minutes to play but was unable to sustain the drive.
Ringler, who passed for 116 yards, and Justin Rogers each had interceptions for the Huskies.
"Our defense gave up some yards but nothing real long," Pillager coach Lowell Scearcy said. "We were playing a lot better at the end than we were early in the year. We would like to go back and start over but we can't."
