Dispatch wins award for coverage of soldiers in Iraq
The Inland Press Association bestowed its 2005 Community Leadership Award on the Brainerd Dispatch for the newspaper's efforts in covering the nearly yearlong deployment in Iraq of 152 soldiers with Company A 194th Armor.

Pedestrian struck
A male pedestrian was involved in a crash Saturday about 11 a.m. on Riverside Drive between the Brainerd Area Civic Center and James Street in Brainerd. A coroner was called to the scene. Minnesota State troopers were called for accident reconstruction.

The "Protection of Lawful Commerce In Arms Act" just passed congressional approval with wide bipartisan support. Particular thanks go to Congressman Mark Kennedy for co-sponsoring the bill. While all of Minnesota's Republican delegation supported this bill, Minnesota's Democratic delegation opposed it with one notable exception, Colin Peterson.
