Pierz boys end 25-year drought

BECKER -- It's been a long time coming as the Pierz Pioneers boys' cross country team finished second at the Section 5, Class 1A meet Thursday, making it the first Pierz boys' team to qualify for state since 1979.

The Pioneers were led by Zach Solinger's second place finish and time of 16:56. Teammate Randy Rauch placed fifth in 17:24 as he and Solinger qualified for state individually.

Pierz's Jamie Talberg ran to a runner-up finish with a time of 15:20 in the Section 5, Class 1A cross country meet and will make her fourth straight trip to the state meet.

Boys' team scores -- 1-St. Cloud Cathedral 35, 2-Pierz 63, 3-Rockford 95, 4-Becker 97, 5-Mora 114, 6-Annandale 126, 7-Paynesville 166, 8-St.Johns Prep 219
