About 2,000 people attended a benefit last weekend for lakes area children suffering from severe burns, a rare neurologic disorder and an aggressive form of cancer.
Friends of the Steve Nunnink family are hoping for a similar show of support 5 p.m. Saturday at the Brainerd Armory for the former Warriors football coach who suffered a brain aneurysm 14 months ago and has yet to return home.
"We have many marvelous auction items, both for silent and live auctions, as well as a number of terrific items for raffles," said Warriors head football coach Ron Stolski, a member of the benefit planning committee. "We expect, given the number of donations we've had, to be announcing recipients of prizes all night long."

"On behalf of the committee, and myself personally, I don't know how to thank the community, the alumni, enough for their generous support of this effort to benefit the Nunnink family," Stolski said.
"A simple thank you doesn't seem sufficient," he added, "but a Warrior thanks signifies that for a short time in our life we can become one heartbeat. Through the efforts of so many we get a chance to show our love and respect for coach Nunnink."
