What specific qualities or experiences will make you a good choice for school board? "As a business owner and college instructor I have a breadth of knowledge which will lead me to make informed and practical decisions on issues that are facing the district. I am a past member of the Community Education Advisory Board, and have worked directly on, or as staff for, several nonprofit, governmental, church and other boards and committees. Through all these experiences, I have learned to look at problems from different perspectives and have been able to work with others to formulate creative solutions to fiscal, management and other issues."
The school district is considering options to address possible growth in the elementary school population. What options do you support? Should increasing class size be on the table? "As a product of neighborhood schools, I will favor maintaining the use of any neighborhood school if it is financially feasible. If we can find a way to fund the re-opening of Whittier, I would definitely consider that our first option. I would only support other options if it is proven that reopening an existing facility is not feasible. As a teacher, I can state as fact that there is a significant difference in teaching and learning with a class size in 30s compared to a class in the 20s. Class size increases are an option of last resort."
