The secret is out. Three years ago a few people noticed when Brainerd Warrior Turena Johnson finished sixth in the Region 8AA meet. This year she became the first Warrior girl to win the region meet and is ranked first in the state.

Upon Gloria Steinem's arrival at the Brainerd Country Club, a crowd of more than 200 men and women stood and applauded enthusiastically. After her 20-minute speech on reproductive freedom she received another standing ovation.

A 16-year-old Brainerd boy is in fair condition at St. Joseph's Hospital with a bullet wound sustained in an attempted robbery of Bob's Liquors on South Ninth Street. Two juveniles entered in masks and knives and a 20-year-old woman drove the getaway car.

Ray Madison and Jerry Walsh, representing the Brainerd Civic Association, are attending a meeting in Grand Rapids, the purpose of which is to discuss the possibility of bringing professional football teams to this area for their training camps.

Because he couldn't refrain from boasting to his friends how he fooled the Brainerd Police Department, a man is in jail for petty larceny. He is charged with stealing a blanket plus three bottles of liquor to be used as evidence against his friend for drunken driving.
100 years ago (1909)
The mills of the Brainerd Milling Co. have again changed hands. They have passed into the hands of the Hayes Weaver Milling Co. and the new company has already commenced buying Wheat and will start grinding next Monday.
