STAPLES -- Andy Mertens and Jake Wagner rushed for two touchdowns and Joe Smith found Jordan Amundson for a 30-yard touchdown pass Tuesday as the second-seeded Staples-Motley Cardinals defeated seventh-seeded Wadena-Deer Creek 47-16 in a Section 6, Class 3A quarterfinal football victory.
Beau Pilgrim added S-M's other touchdown as the Cardinals racked up 413-yards of total offense.
The Wolverines scored when Joe Paulson connected with Tyler Wolden on a 10 yard pass.
