Raiders come out of pool play as No. 1 seed

ROCHESTER -- The Central Lakes College Raiders won seven of nine possible games in pool play and earned the top seed for Saturday's semifinal match against Rainy River.

In pool play, the Raiders first battled with the Mesabi Norse and ended up winning 30-23, 30-26, 31-29.

CLC then played Vermilion and lost the first game 25-30, but came back and won the next two, 30-20, 30-17.

The final match of pool play was against the Ridgewater Warriors and once again the Raiders lost the first game 28-30, but took the next two 30-9, 30-24 to finish pool play with a 7-2 record.

"This was some of our best volleyball of the year," said Raiders coach Jane Peterson. "We haven't played this well since Oct. 3. It was fun to watch."

The Raiders played Rainy River Saturday morning. The match was not only important for the state tournament. It also was important for the fact the winner will host the Region 13B tournament next weekend.
