20 years ago (1989)

A 12-year-old Brainerd girl escaped Tuesday night from an unknown man who is believed to have been trying to abduct her on Quince Street, police reported. Since the Jacob Wetterling kidnapping four days ago police are even more on the alert.

30 years ago (1979)

Brainerd police are investigating the theft of 30 beer kegs worth a total of $750 from a wooden cooler behind Northeast Liquors yesterday morning. A witness to the crime said the thieves made three separate trips during the burglary.

40 years ago (1969)

Trailing 6-0 after a baffling first half, the Brainerd Warriors took an extra charge in the dressing room and completely dominated Bemidji in the second half during a steady rain. The final score was 24-20 over Bemidji, giving Coach Lagergren a 5-3-1 season.

60 years ago (1949)

C.F. Raasch, Whittier School, was elected president of the Central Council of the Brainerd PTA at a meeting held at Washington High School. Other officers are Mrs. Walter Vergin, Mrs. Victor Ferguson, and Fritz Casey, Jr.

80 years ago (1929)

After battling Little Falls on even terms for two periods a scrappy Brainerd High School football team pounded their way to a 6-0 victory. The Little Falls line was forced to give way to the battering ram tactics of Captain Hautala and Abrahamson.

100 years ago (1909)

Joseph Symington, one of two men trapped on a floating bog when their duck boat sank in Mud Lake, is recovering in the hospital. The men were trapped for four days before being rescued and said their greatest fear was of going insane.
