Poisonous fogs of war
Whether one looks back to soldiers exposed to radiation in World War II, to Agent Orange in Vietnam or to possible environmental poisons in the 1991 war in the Persian Gulf, the U.S. government hasn't always given military veterans the healthcare and attention they deserve. Two recent studies show that the problem continues.
U.S. has strength in its diversity
Bush told the International community that they are "either with us, or against us." Now I feel that he is saying essentially the same thing to you and me, the American voters. I suppose that by "us", he must mean himself. His all talk -- no listen, evangelical approach to his presidency displays the height of arrogance and self-delusion. It inevitably divides more than it unites, and is antithetic to democracy.
Mitigating factors in Reserve case
Refusing to obey an order in a war zone is a serious business, and when an entire platoon declines to carry out a mission it's hard to consider it anything other than a mutiny. A breakdown in military discipline -- which is apparently what happened when an Army Reserve unit in Iraq refused to deliver a fuel shipment from Tallil air base near Nasiriyah to Taji north of Baghdad -- is a serious breech of the Army's effectiveness as a fighting force. Soldiers at war can't pick and choose which orders they'll follow.
Union member upset with Teamsters
Politics today can be a hot topic for a lot of people. I am typically a quiet person when it comes to politics. I enjoy doing my own research, by reading up on all the presidential candidates and then making my own informed decision on election day.
