Palmers earn honors

Former Central Lakes College coaches Darlene and Harold Palmer recently were honored for their contributions to athletics.

On Oct. 11, Harold was recognized at the Gogebic (Mich.) Community College's annual banquet for outstanding commitment and leadership at Gogebic from 1956-68.

Darlene was inducted into the Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., High School Hall of Fame Sept. 21.

While they were active coaches, both were inducted into the Minnesota Community College Conference Hall of Fame. They are believed to the first or only couple to be inducted as a couple.

Fall swim lesson

schedule set at YMCA

The Brainerd Family YMCA has its next swim lesson schedule ready.

The session begins the week of Nov. 5, and meets once a week for seven weeks. These preschool and school-age lessons are taught by qualified instructors.

YMCA members may begin registering for classes on Monday. Community members may begin registering Nov. 1.

Bang Printing wins touch football title

Bang Printing swept through the Brainerd Parks and Recreation Department's touch football season undefeated to win the regular season title Tuesday.

Bang stopped Eddy's 25-12 Tuesday to finish with a 9-0 record and earn the top seed for next week's playoffs. Shep's finished second with a 7-2 record after blanking Kelly's Krew 14-0.

Playoffs begin next Tuesday with Bang Printing playing Kelly's Krew at 7 p.m. at Memorial Park. Shep's takes on Chopper's/Brainerd Car Wash at 6:55 p.m. and Eddy's plays Cuyuna Regional Medical Center at 7:50 p.m.

The semifinals and final will be played Thursday, Nov. 1.

Stout wins 20th

match of season

LaCROSSE, Wis. -- University of Wisconsin-Stout recorded its 20th volleyball win of the season as the Blue Devils blanked Viterbo University 30-25, 30-18, 30-28 Monday.

Brainerd High School graduate Laura Bogenschutz had four kills, nine digs and 29 set assists.

On Oct. 20, the Blue Devils dropped a 3-0 decision to UW-Oshkosh. Bogenschutz had 35 assists. The day before they were defeated 3-0 by UW-Whitewater, ranked No. 1 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. On Oct. 15, Stout scored a 3-0 non-conference win over Hamline University as Bogenschutz had 34 assists.

The Blue Devils will end the regular season at the UW-River Falls Invitational this weekend. They return home Tuesday to host a first-round game in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament.
