The State Patrol responded to two accidents in a five-hour period Thursday and Friday on Highway 2, with one accident resulting in a fatality.
The first was a two-vehicle accident reported at 9:11 p.m. Thursday on Highway 2, about four miles west of Cass Lake in Hubbard County that resulted in injuries. Shirley Worth, 76, Bemidji, one of the drivers, was in satisfactory condition Friday at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. She was treated for a broken femur and a concussion.
The second driver, Roxanne Wimme, 51, Cass Lake, was not injured. It was reported that Wimme had alcohol in her system. The State Patrol reported that the vehicle driven by Worth was heading west on Highway 2 and the vehicle driven by Wimme was heading east in the westbound lane and struck Worth's vehicle in the front left part of the vehicle.
The second accident was reported at 1:45 a.m. Friday on Highway 2, about five mile west of Bena in Cass County and it resulted in the death of John Dahmen, 64, Cass Lake. Dahmen was walking east on Highway 2 in the westbound traffic lane when he was struck by an international truck and killed. It was unknown if Dahmen had alcohol in his system.
The driver of the truck, Shawn Siemers, 32, Bemidji was not injured.
