Melissa Rice, the daughter of Keith and Pam Rice, Lake Shore, was accepted for fall admission to Minnesota State University, Mankato. She is a student at Brainerd High School and plans to major in registered nursing.
Ariel Wynne Starzinski, the daughter of Donald and Amy Starzinski, Brainerd, will intern this semester as an office/program intern at SASE: The Write Place in Minneapolis. She is majoring in English at Hamline University and is a graduate of Brainerd High School.
The following students were selected by their teachers as Franklin Junior High School eighth-grade September Students of the Month: Laura Haeg, Rebecca Lange, Megan Griggs, Emily Holland, Kendra Rehnblom, Jade Hagberg, Jessica Keranen, Stephanie Lambrecht and Scott Ramey.
Franklin Junior High School September Students of the Month for ninth grade are: Jasmine Schug, Megan Jacobson, Angie Maurer, Jayce Johnson, Connie Holmes, Noah Wheeler, Mike Hallgren, Benjamin R. Nelson, Brittany Aspholm, Jon Hofstrand, Cody Curell, Rick McLean and Karlye Barron.
Darcy Haas, the daughter of Jane and Don Haas, Little Falls, was selected as Student of the Month for October, a recognition program sponsored by the Youth Activities Committee of Brainerd Elks Lodge No. 615. She is involved in golf, tennis, speech, drama, student council, yearbook and Key Club. She is a member of the National Honor Society and is publicist for Key Club and the yearbook editor. She works for the Dairy Queen in Little Falls and as a Camp Courage counselor.
St. Francis of the Lakes Catholic School recently elected student council members for the 2004-2005 school year. Co-presidents are Laura Craig and Eli Johnson. Secretary is Olivia Elsenpeter. Student council members are T.J. Biley, Tori Volkl, Grace Beckel, Eryn Dahl, Natasha Johnson, Tori Brown and Abby Selisker.
Joseph Lendobeja, Brainerd, and Ryan Lake, Aitkin, were named University Ambassadors at Bemidji State University for the 2004-2005 school year. Lendobeja is a senior, majoring in elementary education, and Lake is a junior, majoring in graphic design. University Ambassadors work in the admissions office and serve as front-line contact with prospective students. Duties include giving tours to prospective students and their families, attending college fairs, planning future student mailings and calling prospective students.
