German friends send flag to MLAP students
A former Brainerd student now living in Germany didn't forget his friends in the United States when terrorists struck last month.
Eric Kinney, a former student of the Middle Level Alternative Program in Brainerd, moved to Germany last summer. After the September 11 attacks, Eric contacted MLAP teacher Jackie Ecklund noting his classmates really felt for him that he was so far from home during this. And so, the students made a flag for Eric to send to MLAP, his home school four years ago. The flag reads "We are mourning with you" and includes signatures of each of the German students.
Ecklund said this has given her students an opportunity to make new friends. "We have since written back to this class in hopes of striking up some friendships," she said.
