Two area resorters were honored by the Minnesota Resort Association at their annual fall conference held at Cragun's Lodge and Conference Center. Jim Madden received the first Pioneer Award, and Mac McGuire of Pine River was named Resorter of the Year.

Brainerd Police Chief Wayne Hasty last month asked a state agency, the BCA, to investigate a possible case of police brutality. The request was made despite a letter from Mayor C. Elmer Anderson ordering Hasty not to do so while on suspension.

A race for at least one city post was assured today when George Bedard, a local Realtor, filed for mayor. He will challenge Barney Winkelman, a current alderman, for the post being left vacant by the departing Mayor Clyde Gorham.

The Brainerd Junior College Red Raiders lost their home finale to Virginia by 6-0. In typical fashion the Raiders out-played, out first-downed, out-passed, out-rushed, and out everything-elsed, including out-fumbling, their opponent.
80 years ago (1929)
A ladies' bowling league was formed last evening at Block's Alleys with four teams entered. Princess Candies and the Cottage Grill are sponsoring two of the teams. Miss Violet Mitchell is president, and the league will meet Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.
100 years ago (1909)
W. B. Sherman, the man catcher of Fargo, was in town on his way to Bemidji. He operates an employment agency in Fargo and says there is a huge demand for men across the country, predicting a big season of logging in Northern Minnesota.
