Local sports shorts

BEMIDJI -- Chris Haugene of Brainerd and Justin Matthiesen of Wadena are members of the Bemidji State University men's golf team.

Haugene, a freshman, shot 83-80--163 in the Irv Kaiser Invitational to place fourth on the BSU team II. In the St. John's Invitational, Haugene shot 90-84--174 to help the Beavers place 13th. He tied for 67th place (85-83--168) to help BSU place 11th at the Fighting Sioux Invitational. His average score was 84.2.

Matthiesen, a senior, shot an average score of 86.3. At the Irv Kaiser Invitational, he shot 87-88--145 to help BSU team II place 14th. Matthiesen tied for 75th place (88-82--170) at the St. John's Invitational.
