The secretary of agriculture has declared a Natural Disaster Determination for 29 counties in Minnesota, including Cass, Crow Wing, and Aitkin, based on the losses caused by frost conditions that occurred Aug. 20 and continuing. Emergency loans are available to eligible farmers.
The application deadline for all listed counties will be June 13, 2005. FSA will consider each application on its own merits, taking into account the extent of losses, security available, repayment ability, and other eligibility requirements.
FSA has a variety of program available, in an addition to the emergency loan program to help eligible farmers recover from adversity. Interested farmers may contact David Petry at the Aitkin FSA office at (218) 927-2912 for further information on eligibility requirements and application procedures. Additional information is also available on line at http://www.fsa.usda.gov/pas/disaster/assistance1.htm.
