The American Red Cross blood drive held Oct. 4-7 was a huge success, with a collection of 644 units of life-saving blood, because of the many volunteers who worked beside me and because of the generosity of the blood donors who gave their time and blood to help save the lives of many members of our community. If necessary, the 644 units of blood could be divided, helping 1,932 citizens in our area.
Sara Higginbotham, whose life was saved because of the donations of almost 100 pints of blood products, brought her daughter, Lily, to the blood drive to give her thanks to many local citizens who were giving blood Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon while her husband, Shawn, was donating blood to help someone else in need.
Thanks to American Legion Post #255 for sponsoring this four-day blood drive. Thanks also to the many businesses that supplied the cookies, juice, pop and snacks for the blood donors. This year we also would like to thank Culvers for the ice cream that indeed was a special treat.
To all of you, thanks from all the recipients who can go about their everyday lives because of your donation.
