Employment in the Brainerd area experienced a decline during the third quarter of 1983. Job Service noted however, that the 1983 decline of 307 jobs was less than 1982.

Don Terrell, president of First Federal Savings and Loan Association, was named president of the Brainerd Area Chamber of Commerce. Also on hand at the banquet was Charles Bailey, managing editor of the Minneapolis Tribune.

Marcia Martinson, Brainerd, has been chosen cheerleader at Gustavus College at St. Peter, for the second straight year.

Louis Hansen and Don Bennyhoff left today for Wheaton where they will spend the week pheasant hunting. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Widmark left today for the southern part of Minnesota on a pheasant hunting trip.

Dispatch Editorial: During the past year, there have been erected in Minnesota 294 new school houses at a cost of $710,053. There are in Minnesota at the present time 7,771 school houses of which number 6,839 are frame, 641 brick, 49 stone and 242 log.
