In two weeks, voters will have an opportunity to cast ballots for school board candidates in four area cities.
Three school board seats are open in Pequot Lakes, Pillager, Staples and Verndale. Each seat is a four-year term.
In Pequot Lakes, there are nine candidates for three seats with two incumbents, Larry Schultz, Ideal Township, and J. Bradley Wallace, Crosslake, each filing for another term. Challengers are: Brett A. Dale, Breezy Point; Jim Park, Pelican Township; Denise Zwart, Jenkins; Lynn Hunt, Sibley Township; Bill Hurley, Jenkins Township; Ronald H. Engbloom, Breezy Point; and James M. Gammello, Pelican Township.
In Pillager, three incumbents and three challengers filed for three open school board seats. Incumbents, Thomas E. Badger, Lake Shore; Elaine Lohr, Fairview Township; and Robert Marquardt, Homebrook Township, filed for the election. Challengers are: Danelle Bybee, Pillager; Elbert "Tom" Rhett, Sylvan Township; and Ian Newkirk, Pillager.
In Staples, incumbents Mike Hajek, Staples, and Roy DiGiovanni, Motley, filed along with Mark Haglin, Staples.
In Verndale, incumbents Jim Runyan and Rodney Bounds, both of Verndale, filed, as well as Harvey Schoon, Verndale.
The general election is Nov. 6.
