WADENA - Aaron Kern carried 32 times for 122 yards and two touchdowns as the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines broke a 23-game losing streak by defeating West Central 12-6 in a Heart O' Lakes Conference South Division regular-season ending game Wednesday.
W-DC's last win was three years ago, also against West Central.
The teams were tied 6-6 at halftime after a 41-yard run by West Central's Cody Blehr at 8:47 and a 6-yard burst by Kern at 4:16.
Late in the fourth quarter, Cory Tumberg recovered a West Central fumble and returned it 20 yards to the Knights' 10. Kern took over, carrying three times, finding the end zone from three yards out for the winning score with 3:48 left to play.
Kevin Tumberg was 5 of 12 passing for 52 yards. Logan Meyer carried 13 times for 60 yards for the Wolverines.
