(Photo) Lisa Olson of Nevis appeared to be overcome with joy after being crowned Miss Heartland during the first annual Heartland Queen Pageant at the Brainerd Armory. Crowning the 17-year-old was Miss Brainerd, Linda Eder.

Jim Madden and Max Buzz Ruttger announced that Madden Brothers, Inc. has leased Ruttger's Lodge on Pine Beach at Gull Lake and that Maddens will operate it beginning with the 1970 season. Ruttger's Lodge was built in 1930.

Fred Thiesse of the Thiesse Dairy has renewed his voluntary donation of a tank training area for Headquarters Company of the 194th Tank Battalion. He has provided ten acres of rough terrain on his farm on South 13th Street for a second year.

A spectacular fire, which rousted 125 hotel guests from their beds, started in an unused stairway of the Ransford pool hall, swept through the ceiling to the Ransford Annex, then through the walls into the Journal Press newspaper, causing $20,000 damage.

Lulu Adams, who had been tending bar for Andy Hefferin in his Malt joint on Front Street, came to grief last night. She had opened a place near the hay market but was arrested by the sheriff. She was sentenced to jail but allowed to leave on the noon train.
