BAXTER - The Baxter City Council Tuesday passed a resolution to annex five acres of Unorganized Territory into the city.
The property being annexed is the location of Fourth Avenue Church of Christ off Highway 371.
Council member Todd Holman said the annexation is part of the city's plan to continue its sewer project that would go from Highway 371 to Novotny Road to Dellwood Drive, south to Whispering Woods Lane.
The council held a public hearing on the annexation of the church and the propperty of Mark and Judy Zahn, who live on Dellwood Drive behind the Heartland Animal Rescue Team building, spoke. The Zahns, who have their home on property that is zoned commercial, were concerned if the annexation would affect their property taxes.
Holman said their property would be discussed at a Long Range Planning meeting set Thursday.
In other city business, the council set a time and date to review the city administrator applications to 6 p.m. Monday.
The council accepted a $1,000 donation from the Kiwanis Club that was a portion of the money that was raised from the Children's Triathlon held in August. Mike Dillon of Kiwanis said the triathlon was a success, having 168 children who participated.
