Road vacation sought

CASS COUNTY BOARD

Posted: Wednesday, October 22, 2008

BACKUS - Cass County Board referred to a special committee consideration of a petition from some residents to vacate old County State Aid Highway 50, former Upper Ten Mile Lake Road. It now is named Ten Mile Lane.

The committee will include Commissioners Jim Dowson and Jeff Peterson, Shingobee Township representatives, County Engineer David Enblom, County Attorney Christopher Strandlie and other county staff.

Enblom told the county board Tuesday, the road through that area that runs between owners' houses and garages does not have enough right-of-way between the buildings to meet standard township or county road standards, despite the fact it served as a county road until the road was rebuilt in a new location two years ago.

About half of the residents along the road want to privatize it. Some of the other residents have told the board they expected it to remain a county road.

Committee meetings will be open to the public.

The county will host a public hearing at 7:15 p.m. Nov. 13 at Hiram Town Hall, 5814 36th St. N.W., Hackensack, to consider county abandonment of a short section of CSAH 71 on the west shore of Ten Mile Lake.
