Kids Act happy with home

Posted: Saturday, October 22, 2005

A special thanks to Jerry Walseth and Todd Lyscio for believing in Kids Act Productions and helping us to find a permanent home on the top floor in Room 306 of the Washington Educational Services Building. I know I speak for the board, the parents and for every child in Kids Act and Kids Skits when I say, "Thanks so much for this amazing space that we now have to work in, play in, dream in, to become all that we can become on stage and off." We absolutely love our new space.

We wish to thank the businesses that supported our "Pretty in Pink" event for women Oct. 4 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The response was great with 160 gals educated about breast health. The donations were greatly appreciated.

Thank you, too, to the Brainerd High School staff for assistance with the delicious meal, technical assistance and help with setting up. The generous support by the community was greatly appreciated. Thank you again.

Contribution to Whittier

I would like to bring to your attention the contribution Minnesota/Iowa AAA has made to Whittier Elementary School in Brainerd in the form of a $100 grant to our traffic safety program.

We are using the grant to buy new batteries for walkie-talkies our patrols use while they are on patrol duty. This ensures they are able to be in contact with the building in case of an emergency.

We also will include the grant in our school's Legionville camper's scholarship fund. This will help make it possible for students to experience Legionville Patrol Camp.

Hurricane relief benefit

On behalf of all of us who sponsored the Lakes Area Hurricane Relief Benefit Oct. 1 at Norway Ridge, I wish to thank all who donated their time and talents, items for drawings and auctions, services, all who sent checks and all who attended and made the event exciting and fun.

Once again, our community has shown its enormously kind and generous spirit. Many people had previously donated money or items to various hurricane benefits, but still they donated more at this event. Although we live in a smaller lake community, we are first and foremost Americans. Our neighbors span the borders of all 50 states.

Together we raised more than $18,500 for the Salvation Army Hurricane Relief Fund to help our neighbors. Together we can make a difference. Thank you. Thank you.

Golden Gloves support

Another season has begun in Golden Gloves Boxing. I would like to thank all of our supporters in 2004-2005: Northern Building Solutions, Joey Christensen; Kurilla Real Estate, Jim Christensen; Brainerd Boosters; Steve Wichek; Nisswa Marine; Steve Lastovich; Renee Taylor and all her dentist friends.

Our team, which started with 22 kids, could use support from the businesses in Brainerd-Baxter. These kids represent our area so let's help our team with a tax-deductible donation.
