The Initiative Foundation recently awarded eight community grants totaling $51,000. Area organizations were selected as grant recipients:
City of Little Falls; Artspace market study ($2,500) as part of its economic development plan, to conduct a market study to determine whether there is enough affordable space and customer base to attract and retain resident artists. Contact: Richard Carlson.
Cloverleaf Youth Partnership, Wadena; Cyber Cafe Operations ($10,000) to support the operations of a youth-managed coffeehouse and teen center in downtown Wadena. Contact: Randy Jahnke.
Crow Wing County, Brainerd; community-based methamphetamine programs ($10,000) to engage local citizens in prevention, enforcement and victim treatment options related to methamphetamine drug use and manufacturing. Contact: Terry Sluss.
Faith In Action for Cass County, Hackensack; ongoing operating ($5,000) to build a volunteer coalition and support fund-raising efforts for ongoing operations. Contact: LuAnn Fransen.
Minnesota Lakes Association, Brainerd; Board Retreat ($500) to improve environmental services by updating a strategic plan completed through the Initiative Foundations Healthy Organizations Partnership program. Contact: Paula West.
Morrison County Public Health, Little Falls; methamphetamine reduction project ($10,000) to engage local citizens in prevention, enforcement and victim treatment options related to methamphetamine drug use and manufacturing. Contact: Kirsten Hoese.
The Initiative Foundation seeks projects that strengthen central Minnesota communities and address barriers to economic development. Grants are available for short-term or planning efforts, up to $5,000, and program implementation for single community projects, up to $10,000. Inquiries for applications are accepted on an ongoing basis and are generally reviewed within 14 days of receipt.
