Howard A. Thiery, 81, Brainerd, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at St. Cloud Hospital.
He was born Oct. 7, 1920, in Aberdeen, S.D., to Frank and Mary Thiery. He moved to Brainerd in 1933. He married Jeanette Tifft on Aug. 9, 1941. He served during World War II in the Army in the Pacific area from 1942-1945. He worked for Pittsburg Pacific Mines in Crosby until it closed and then at Potlatch Paper Co., for 25 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Brainerd VFW Post 1647, the VFW Color Guard Post 1647 and the American Legion Post No. 255.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Don, Lonny and Kerry, all of Brainerd; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and three sisters, Lucille Rounds, Olympia, Wash., Frances Kurth, Britton, S.D., and Cecil Grondin, Seattle.
Two brothers and three sisters died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Military honors by the Brainerd VFW Post 1647.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and an hour before services Wednesday.
