Roger Vogt of Palisade has been named a state committee member to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency by President Barack Obama. He was recommended for the post by Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., who made the announcement Tuesday.
Vogt has been chairman of the Aitkin County Farm Service Agency for seven years. He and his wife operate a potato farm in Aitkin County.
School board candidate forum to be aired on Charter, CTC
The Brainerd School Board Candidate Forum, sponsored Monday by the League of Women Voters of the Brainerd Lakes Area and the American Association of University Women, will be rebroadcast several times on CTC and Charter cable channels 8 and 15 before the Nov. 3 election.

YMCA Fall II swim lesson registration dates start Monday
The Brainerd Family YMCA's next swim lesson session is coming soon. The lesson schedule is available now at the YMCA and on the Web at www.brainerdlakesymca.org. The session begins the week of Nov. 2 and meets once a week for seven weeks. These pre-school and school-age lessons are taught by trained instructors.
YMCA members can begin registering for pre-school classes on Monday, school age classes on Tuesday. Community members can begin on Oct. 29. Contact the Brainerd Family YMCA at 829-4767 or stop by at 602 Oak St. in Brainerd to register.
The YMCA recently implemented a new computer system and is asking all community members who intend to register for a session to visit the Y's Web site, download and complete the community membership information form or please stop in at the YMCA and complete the form before the Oct. 29 registration date.
Brainerd transportation panel meets Monday afternoon
The Brainerd Transportation Advisory Committee will meet at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Brainerd City Hall.
Halloween party at Prairie Bay
