Despite pleas, no trees to buffer proposed new store
Despite pleas from neighboring residents, a stipulation that a buffer of trees be planted at a proposed convenience store and gas station in northeast Brainerd won't be included in the conditional use permit.
Blaze of activity
NISSWA -- Firefighters from four departments battled a series of fires throughout Crow Wing County Monday, including two structure fires on East Clark Lake Road in Nisswa.
Too late for car
Two firefighters sprayed a car that was destroyed by a fire on Clark Lake near Nisswa. The fire spread to the nearby woods and another building.

MOTLEY -- A 71-year-old Edina man died after the vehicle he was driving drifted off Highway 64, about 1-1/2 miles north of Highway 210 near Motley and rolled over, the State Patrol said.
Marine music man
Col. Timothy W. Foley directed the U.S. Marine Band in a concert Monday night at the Brainerd High School gym. The free concert was sponsored by The Brainerd Daily Dispatch and Echo Publishing.

She was born on March 28, 1914, in Eden Prairie to Frank and Viola (Driver) Roach. She moved to Crosby at 4 years of age. She married Eddy Rappana on June 15, 1935. She was a member of Crosby-Ironton Presbyterian Church in Crosby.
